NSMQ IN ADIDOME SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
The National Science and Maths Quiz is an annual science and mathematics content-based competition for senior high schools in Ghana. It is open to all schools across the length and breadth of Ghana to compete for a trophy, honour and bragging rights. It is a competition that has caught up with almost everyone in Ghana; regardless of educational background. In ADISEC, our first attempt at the National Science and Maths Quiz competition was in 2014 where we were able to qualify from the regional level to the national stage. We competed in the Prelims of the 2014 National Science and Maths Quiz at the University of Ghana, Legon but lost narrowly. Attempts in 2015 to get to the national stage weren’t successful, however in 2016 we qualified from the region to the national stage but again lost at Prelims of the National Competition. In 2017 after qualifying from the region, we went ahead to win our contest at the prelims stage and went further to the 1/8th stage of the competition before bowing out. 2018 and 2019 were unsuccessful years for qualification, however in 2020 and 2021, the team qualified for the national championship and on both occasions bowed out after the prelims. 2022 was another unsuccessful year for the team when it lost at the regional level. The team did its homework and was able to secure a qualification slot at the 2023 regional qualifiers. The team went on the national championship at the Kwame Nkrumah University for Science and Technology, Kumasi. The team gave an impressive performance in their prelims stage competition which qualified them to the 1/8th stage of the competition. The team lost its 1/8th stage contest to Bishop Herman College narrowly after a very interesting contest. The team is currently preparing for the 2024 competition of the National Science and Maths Quiz were ADISEC has been seeded at the regional lebel because of her performance in 2023. The team has 11 form one students and 7 form two students. There are seven teachers that train the team; this includes the coordinator and the Head of Science Department.
